Building Maintenance
OFS provides most routine building maintenance services for I&G buildings. To find out if a particular building or service is covered under rountine building maintenance, call the Work Order Desk at (575)646-7114.
Building Walk-Throughs
The Associate Vice President for Facilites and Services personally inspects major campus buildings on a regular schedule for maintenance needs. For information or to schedule a walk-through call (575)646-2101.
Elevator Maintenance
All elevators on campus are maintained by the OFS Electric Shop. The preventive maintenance program followed by the shop helps keep the elevators in optimum working order.

Environmental Control
OFS provides environmental control for most campus buildings, including the adjustment of thermostats upon request. However, because HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditiong) systems vary widely from one building to the next, the level of environmental control we can provide also varies.

Equipment Installation
OFS can install most types of equipment, from delivery to assembly and hooking up any needed utilities. (Two exceptions are telephones and computers, which are supported by Computing and Networking.) OFS must be involved in any installation requiring modification of utility systems or facilities. The requesting department is usually responsible for the cost of such modifications.
For simple installations, e.g., a new electrical outlet for your copy machine, call the Work Order Desk at (575)646-7114 or go to the work order request page. For larger projects, e.g., a dedicated circuit for your copy machine or a different voltage, we suggest you contact our Project Management section at (575)646-7722. They can help you determine the scope of work involved and if necessary provide a cost estimate.
Furniture Fabrication and Installation
OFS can design, build and install custom or built-in furniture, such as desks, cabinets, bookcases, etc. We may also be able to repair or modify something you already have. Estimates are available. For more information, call the Work Order Desk at (575)646-7114.
Keys and Locks
The Locksmith Shop provides the following services:
- Installation of locks
- Repair of locks
- Installation and maintenance of door hardware
- Cutting additional keys
($2.50 for standard key, $10 for key to high-security lock) - Design of master key systems
- Emergency locksmith services

Light Bulb Replacement
OFS will replace burned out light bulbs in permanently affixed light fixtures at no charge if a standard light bulb is used. Non-standard light bulbs are billed to the department. To request light bulb replacement, go to the work order request page or call the Work Order Desk at (575)646-7114.
Mail Services
The Mail Services primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Apply correct postage on outgoing mail and prepare charge backs of postage to all departments on campus.
- Coordinate bulk mailings and ensure compliance with USPS regulations.
- Pick up and deliver interdepartmental mail twice daily.
- Labelling of various campus communications and other materials which includes ordering labels, applying labels, and distribution.
- Regulate charge backs on permit number mail and maintain ledger of charge backs.

Moving Furniture and Equipment
The OFS labor crew is available to assist departments in moving furniture and equipment. There is no charge for this service unless items are moved off campus or special equipment such as forklifts or jacks is necessary. Arrangements should be made several days in advance for scheduling purposes.
OFS will also transport materials to the Property Office when departments wish to turn them in. However, the Property Office must first agree to accept the material. Contact the Property Office for more information.

Painting
OFS is responsible for painting the interior and exterior of campus buildings. Building interiors are scheduled for repainting every seven years. OFS painters also remove graffiti from building exteriors.

Pest Control
The OFS Grounds Shop follows an integrated pest management program with respect to the NMSU grounds. In addition, they provide structural pest control (insects, rodents and other pests) for buildings. Services offered include:

- Treating for insects
- Pest trapping and removal
- Removal of dead animals
- Vector Control

Property Office
The Property Office duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Prepare and maintain the inventories for the main campus and branch campuses consisting of over 30,000 pieces of equipment valued at over $150,000,000.
- Oversee all property disposition including sales to other agencies, public bid sales, and auctions.
- Maintain an excess property warehouse for departmental excess equipment for redistribution and reutilization.
- Responsible for contents of Business & Finance Archives Warehouse, composed of documentation over two years old.
- Maintain vehicle registrations and titles and coordinate related transactions such as tradeins, registrations, sales, and license plate activities.

Recycling
Beginning in the summer of 1994, OFS established an integrated solid waste management program focused on recycling, reduction, and improved handling of campus-generated solid wastes. Implementation of a new and comprehensive recycling effort has resulted in substantial amounts of paper, metal, and organic materials being diverted from the campus waste stream.

Composting
Organic materials generated on campus, such as leaves, branches, grass clippings, and biosolids from livestock, are now turned into mulch and compost. These materials are returned to use on campus by PPD Landscape Management, completing the recycling loop. Research into the beneficial uses of processed organic materials is in progress, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and organizations interested in exploring this rapidly growing field.

Repairs
OFS personnel are capable of repairing a wide variety of fixtures and equipment. The cost of repairing departmental equipment is the department's responsibility. Repair of permanent fixtures is generally the responsibility of PPD. In some cases, however, the cost of a major repair may exceed the funding PPD has available to cover it. In such cases, repairs may be deferred until funding becomes available. Minor repairs can usually be taken care of immediately.

Table and Chair Setup for Special Events
OFS has a number of tables and chairs available which departments may borrow for special events. There is no charge for their use. Delivery and setup is also provided at no charge, unless the tables and chairs must be transported off campus. An account number is required to reserve tables and chairs, but will not be charged unless it becomes necessary to repair or replace items that are damaged or not returned. Arrangements should be made well in advance for scheduling purposes. During certain times of the year, several weeks' notice is advisable. Vehicle Fueling
Diesel and unleaded fuel is available for university vehicles 24 hours a day at the service station located south of the Fire Station on Research Drive. Prices are typically a few cents less per gallon than pump prices in town. The system is card-operated and offers several options for security and data collection. Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
OFS mechanics can provide a wide variety of vehicle repairs and services, including diesel engine maintenance. Tires, mounting and balancing are also available. In addition, we offer a scheduled preventive maintenance service program to help avoid major repairs on your vehicle. The Mechanic Shop can also service other types of engines, such as those used in standy-by generators.

Warehouse Receiving and Delivery
The OFS warehouse receives all PO deliveries, which are then expedited, tagged, and delivered to the departments. The warehouse can also refuse delivery of material if instructed to do so by department personnel. Warehouse receiving is provided free of charge. A labor crew delivers goods to departments as they are received. Delivery within the normal schedule is complimentary. Departments may also arrange to pick up their material.
The warehouse also offers a variety of hardware and cleaning supplies for purchase by university departments. A valid account number must be presented to purchase material.
